Wolf Hotel, book one: a new job, a new boss, and no safe distance.

01OPENING NOTE

In Tempt Me, K.A. Tucker follows Abbi Mitchell from a broken engagement in Kansas to a job at a luxury hotel in Alaska, where Henry Wolf — heir, playboy, and her new boss — decides she will be his personal assistant.

THE JOURNAL

An editorial introduction to the book, its premise and the story surrounding it.

Abbi runs from home after discovering her boyfriend’s infidelity. Alaska is supposed to be distance and a paycheck, not another entanglement. The Wolf Hotel chain is where she lands — first in the wrong department, then in Henry Wolf’s direct line of sight.

Henry is the heir: arrogant, reserved with staff, and used to getting what he wants. He watches Abbi’s interview recording and chooses her himself. She cannot understand why. She lacks the experience that would seem to matter to a man who runs a luxury empire, and she keeps making spectacular mistakes.

He tells her he wants only competent assistance. He also tests her, toys with her, and refuses to risk his empire for a tangle with “the help.” Abbi begins to read that refusal as a lie he is telling both of them.

Alaska as reset and trap

The setting is not neutral. Leaving Kansas is Abbi’s attempt to rebuild after humiliation. The hotel is a closed world of hierarchy, uniforms, and proximity to power. Becoming Henry’s assistant collapses the distance she thought she had bought with a plane ticket. Every professional error becomes personal because the boss is watching and, increasingly, choosing to watch closely.

Published synopses emphasize power dynamics and self-discovery. Abbi is inexperienced on several fronts that matter to Henry’s usual circle. That inexperience is not only comic relief. It is the vulnerability the romance exploits and, eventually, has to answer for.

Boss, not savior

Henry’s public reputation is playboy and bastard. The novel does not rush to rehabilitate him in the first chapters. He demands, apologizes slowly, and enjoys the effect he has on Abbi. The tension is whether the job is a genuine role or a prolonged game. Readers of workplace romance will recognize the structure; Tucker’s version keeps the luxury-hotel stakes and the class gap visible.

The series title matters. Wolf Hotel is a family business and a brand. Any relationship between heir and assistant is also a risk to the company narrative. That institutional pressure is part of why Henry claims he will not cross the line — and part of why crossing it would mean more than a private affair.

Who this book is for

Tempt Me is for readers of contemporary adult romance who want a boss-assistant setup with a clear power gap and a heroine starting over after betrayal. It is book one of Wolf Hotel, so the relationship opens a longer chain of hotel-and-family stories. Mature themes are part of the package; the early synopses flag that explicitly.

A short note

What holds me is Abbi’s first explanation for the job: she cannot fathom why he picked her. That confusion is more interesting than instant chemistry. It keeps the early chapters honest about imbalance before the romance claims anything softer.
