Beatrice Prior is back at the Choosing Ceremony, and this time the choice is not the one readers already know.

ON THE COVER

A girl in red standing on a cracked glass peak, with a second figure behind her.

01 / OPENING

The Sixth Faction is Veronica Roth’s return to Beatrice Prior, and it is not a sequel. HarperCollins published it on October 6, 2026, as the first book of a planned duology, with a sequel titled The Last Testimony set for February 2, 2027. The deluxe limited edition on this listing is the same story in a special binding. The premise is an alternate Choosing Ceremony: same city, same five factions, same girl, and a different decision after a tragedy.

02 / THE FEATURE

The same ceremony, a different choice

The city the book keeps

Beatrice Prior still lives in a city split into five factions. Abnegation prizes selflessness. Amity prizes kindness. Candor prizes honesty. Dauntless prizes bravery. Erudite prizes intelligence. At sixteen she must choose one and live by it. In the original Divergent novel she is raised in Abnegation and chooses Dauntless. The Sixth Faction starts in that same room and then leaves the known path.

Roth has described the book as an alternate-universe reimagining, not a prequel and not a spin-off. The question she put on it is simple: what if Beatrice had made a different choice? Tragedy strikes, and the decision changes. The title promises a sixth faction, which is the pressure on a society that believes five are enough. A reader who knows the first book will feel the hinge. A reader who does not can still enter at the ceremony.

The US hardback runs to 528 pages, for readers 13 and up. This listing is the deluxe limited edition. The text is the novel. The binding is the extra. Nothing in the public premise names the faction she chooses, and this feature will not invent it.

What the choice is allowed to change

A Choosing Ceremony is a public sorting that pretends to be a private conscience. The Sixth Faction uses that public moment as the break. If Beatrice does not walk toward Dauntless, the friendships, the training, and the war that followed in the earlier books cannot arrive in the same order. The book is interested in that fork. It is not interested in correcting the old novels. Roth has said the new book is a way back into a story she had stopped talking about, not a replacement for it.

The cover on this listing puts a girl in red on a cracked glass peak, with another figure lower behind her, birds in a dark sky, and a pink flare along the boards. It reads as a city under strain. The subtitle on the jacket says a new Divergent series. That is the commercial fact. The narrative fact is narrower: one girl, one ceremony, one different decision.

The sequel date is part of the offer. The Last Testimony is scheduled for February 2, 2027. A reader opening The Sixth Faction is opening book one of two. The ending of this volume is not the ending of the duology, and this feature does not describe either ending.

Who it is for

The book is for a reader who wants the faction city again and is willing to lose the plot they remember. It is also for a reader new to Beatrice, because the ceremony explains the world. It is a poor fit for someone who wants a direct continuation of the last Divergent chapter. Roth has been plain that this is not that book.

HarperCollins announced it at BookCon in New York in April 2026. The October 6 publication puts the deluxe edition on the same shelf as the standard hardback. A buyer of this listing is buying the limited object and the new choice, not a revised old novel.

This feature stops at the ceremony. I have not read the 528 pages. The verified offer is the alternate decision, the five factions, and the title’s promise that five may not be the whole city.

MEET THE AUTHOR

The voice behind the work.

Veronica Roth

Veronica Roth wrote the Divergent novels. The Sixth Faction is her alternate-universe return to Beatrice Prior, announced as the start of a new duology rather than a sequel to the original series.

A SHORT NOTE

A short note

I like that the book goes back to the ceremony instead of past the last chapter. The part worth opening is the different choice: same girl, same bowls, a tragedy, and a city that may have a sixth answer. Roth fits the book because she is rewriting the hinge she already made famous. I have not read the new path. The ceremony is the part I would hand someone first.
